Ponniyin Selvan is a historical fiction novel was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy, in Tamil. This novel was first published in the weekly editions of Kalki from 29 October 1950 to 16 May 1954, and released in book format of five parts in 1955. In five volumes, or about 2,210 pages, it tells the history of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola. Kalki visited Sri Lanka three times to collect information for wrote this novel.

Even today, this novel has a cult following and fan group among people of all generations. Also, this book continues to be admired and garner critical wishes for its tightly woven plot, clear narration, the wit of the dialogue, and the way in which the power struggle and interested of the Chola empire were represented.

Ponniyin Selvan is considered by many to be the most precious novel ever written in tamil literature. This book was published by Kizhakku Pathippagam on 2015 and has 1495 pages.
